-The 2006 Prize Pool Lawsuit Resolved.
February 7, 2007 - by Jim Griffin |
The Associated Press is reporting that Jamie Gold and Crispin
Leyser have agreed to settle out of court.
This is good news for the industry and will hopefully be a
first step in a direction for Gold that involves repairing his
public image. Typically the WSOP Main Event Champion spends
the next year being an ambassador of the poker industry. This
tradition has struggled to continue as so much controversy has
surrounded Jamie Gold since his impressive victory was
complete.
Jamie Gold was recently cut from team Bodog. The reason given
was the Bodog has ended all offline marketing in the USA. Many
believe this was only the public reason, a lot of poker
players feel that Gold simply did nothing positive for Bodog's
image.
The AP statement said:
"Jamie always intended on sharing his winnings with Crispin,"
"Jamie and Crispin are happy to report they have fully settled
this matter. They are pleased to be closing this chapter and
look forward to continued success."
Six Million Dollars (half) of the
WSOP prize pool has been held since September when a US Court
Judge ordered it to be placed in an interest bearing account
until the matter was settled.
Legal experts believed the Leyser
would win the suit and receive the entire 6 million.
